The thing about nuts is that they are high proteins but also very high in fat. However, the newest research seems to indicate that being high in fat might not be a bad thing. The oils found in nuts are of the mono-saturated kind and, in moderation, may provide a healthy type of fat that signals our body’s liver that there is no need to manufacture extra cholesterol. Many experts now believe nuts to be very helpful in lowering the body’s overall LDL (low-density lipoprotein) level and consequently lowering the risk of heart disease. Walnuts, especially, have emerged as an excellent source for providing the body with these essential fats.

In keeping with this cutting edge nutritional information, we would like to continue with our NAMM Show/“Guitar of the Week” extravaganza. These two guitars need to be spoken of together due to their shared health benefits. Now we are not saying that playing a beautiful walnut topped Hollow Drop Top or Hollow Cobra S will actually lower your cholesterol but I am sure that artistically expressing yourself on a guitar that has the tone and playability of angels has to be good for you.

The first guitar is a Hollow Drop Top, most notably set apart from its Hollow Cobra S counterpart by its single/single humbucking pickup configuration and its “Light Shaded Edge” finish. Picking it up and tucking it to your body reveals an impressively comfortable instrument to hold. Negotiating its T/A Standard, Madagascar rosewood fingerboard neck further reveals pure effortless execution of your favorite licks. A hollow chambered, basswood back underpins the beautifully figured walnut-topped body. Together they create a tone that is uniquely lush. Its upper midrange speaks with pronounced musical clarity while the overall timbre is characterized by a booming low-end walnut rumble—very powerful and very impressive. The SA1R, SA1 and H2+ pickups witness the birth of this nucleus tone and enhance its transfer to the amplifier with a delicately percussive, powerful, clear authority. This wonderful guitar is temporarily residing with Steve, Britt and Zack at Wildwood Music in Louisville, Colorado. They are waiting for your call.

Cobra’s use of a 24 ¾-inch scale length, mahogany backed body and neck, focus tone in much the same way as does a laser which concentrates its light into a centralized beam that yields much more power in the area that it shines. Staying true to its character, the walnut-topped body delivers Cobra’s signature with an added upper-mid clarity that is more reminiscent of a koa top than it is maple. The walnut also makes good on its promise of low-end fullness and unlike koa restores the traditional maple-sounding low-end—a very nice balance.

Usually selected to complement this tone wood is an H1- neck humbucking and H2+ in the bridge location. These Anderson-built pickups bring forth Cobra’s character in a big way. Their expression is very large, full and warm without the loss of important articulation. The standard Cobra 5-way and push/pull switching allow these twin humbuckers to manifest 6 extremely usable and versatile sounds that cover many styles. The versatility does not stop here however. Keith at Gelb Music in Redwood City, California ordered this “Cherry Shaded Edge,” Hollow Cobra S with the added sonic benefit of a piezo pickup located in the bridge. This entitles the holder to express amazing plugged-in acoustic guitar tones that can be run alone or blended with Cobra electrics.

From a position of strength, be kind to someone who you think does not deserve it. It is an enriching experience.

Thanks for watching and tune in next week when we bring you something brand new!
