To enter into all you do with quality and enthusiasm is a gift given to everyone. Brian Harris is such a man as this. He is the Anderson guru at the Brook Mays, Pro Shop in Dallas, Texas. He, Jeff and their customers are responsible for ordering some of the coolest and most unique guitars to come from Tom Anderson Guitarworks. Why just last week Brian himself played his new Tobacco Fade, Drop Top T equipped with H1 and H3 humbuckers and a Floyd Rose locking tremolo bridge, before an audience of 7000 people. The performance was simultaneously web-cast and taped for replay on a local radio and cable television show in the weeks that follow. I guess you could say it was a smashing success—but that is Brian.
Speaking of beautiful and unique, Dennis must be a guitar player of vision for he and Brian conjured up the very first koa topped Hollow T Classic. There is just something enchanting about the sound of koa atop a hollowed basswood back with a 25 ½-inch scale length. Pineapples are zesty. It communicates with a clear upper-midrange presence that extends into the middle frequencies adding rich authority. The naturally reddish-hued Madagascar rosewood fingerboard, which adorns the medium-depth “62 Round back” maple neck, introduces softness and breath while increasing low-end warmth.
A traditionally styled white pearl pickguard and a humbucking/single/humbucking pickup configuration define the facial expression of this Cherry Shaded beauty. Its sonic character is bestowed upon the audience when the H1- SA1 and H2+ pickups offer up the wood’s natural character in a myriad of tonal variations thanks to the standard Anderson 5-Way switching’s ability to deliver 14 different sonic combinations. Versatility is not a problem here.
When Dennis received his new Hollow T Classic, I think it safe to say he was pleased because he called to say how much he loved it. In fact why don’t we let Dennis tell us himself. “I didn’t even have to plug it in to know how resonant it is. With one strum it literally vibrates in your hands. As soon as I got it, I came home from work to play it. I had told my boss when it arrives I’m going to need an hour off and he was nice enough to agree. 25 years ago my father and I took a trip to the island of Maui. It is one of those trips that you remember all of your life. There we saw an acoustic guitar made from koa. It had such an incredible sound that I never forgot it. This guitar brings back all of those good memories and more.”
Well it looks like Dennis and Brian have made Anderson history!
