Drop Top
Maple Top on Basswood
Burnished Orange Burst with Binding

They are tough, they are muscular and they are risk takers of the extreme kind—those who dare to walk the very verge of danger in quest of an adrenaline rush that can only come from living life at the outside edge. Perhaps the most exceptional of this rare breed can be found bungee jumping around their native Colorado, scaling sheer granite cliffs in the Rocky Mountains or trudging through the snow and ice fields in order to summit another new peak in record time. As I am sure you have already guessed, we are referring to the staff of Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado. Rumor has it that they are extremist thrill seekers extraordinaire—plus it could explain the use of the word “wild” slyly incorporated into their store name.

Now it stands to reason that those who would dare to enjoy the winds of life blowing through their hair, walk on the wild side with a swagger, laugh in the face of adversity and emerge victorious, would certainly relish the opportunity to boldly go where no one has ever gone before. So when Tom Anderson Guitarworks offered Wildwood the chance to debut this first-ever Burnished Orange Burst finish, they jumped at the opportunity with a resounding, “Yes.” Based on their success with its predecessor finish, Burnished Orange, it was no challenge at all for these audacious pioneers of musical style to love this Drop Top.

They warmly welcomed its resoundingly even frequency response imposed by a gorgeous Flame Maple top astride a Basswood backed body, appropriately matched to a Maple/Indian Rosewood neck. With its sleek, slim T/A Standard neck silhouette and perfectly dressed stainless steel frets, slipping and sliding around this fingerboard makes you feel as though you have at last entered a state of single note nirvana.

Light off the single-coil-sized SA pickups and be prepared to present its inherently gorgeous, woody tone with robust dimension and clarity. By contrast, throwing the 5-Way switch to the bridge position will elevate the show to a whole other level as Drop Top’s impressive musical abilities are ramped up to audience-awing levels by way of the H2+ humbucker.

May we say that the wild people of Wildwood Guitars have one astoundingly wild guitar with which to parallel their wildest musical desires? So before these entrepreneurs of unbelievable adventure try climbing Pikes Peak to serenade the mountain goats with this Burnished Orange Burst, Drop Top, you may want to give them a call.
