Cobra
Maple Top on Mahogany - Cobra
Black with Binding
|
We are currently engaged in creating the new updated version of our catalog. Last week I let it slip and told you that we are out of catalogs. I have now been locked in the tower and can only be released with the presentation of sonic pearls of wisdom. So we’d better keep this brief. I know, lets just spy on Bob and see what he’s up to. Bob is the head of Final Assembly here at Tom Anderson Guitarworks and this man knows guitars—and he can really play too. If he thinks something is cool, it usually is.
The first guitar Bob is playing is a Black Cobra with natural binding and 3, P-90-style Anderson pickups. Man does this thing sound phenomenal. Its all mahogany/maple-topped body produces a thick and fat tone. The robust sounding Soapbar pickups are controlled with a 5-way selector and a push/pull tone control switch that yields 7 different tonal combinations. This is the way to get great versatility from a Soapbar guitar. When Bob finished playing it and playing it and playing it, it went to the Mesa/Boogie Factory Store in Hollywood, CA. What a guitar! Bob knows it and if you get a chance to play it I’m sure you’ll know it too.

This baby Bob is holding is a Baby Blue, Classic. Bruce, Bob, Dave and I all loved this color as an alternative vintage shade. Its tone is wonderfully classic thanks to the lush vintage tones produced by the Alder body, maple/Indian rosewood neck and transferred to the amp via its VA1, VA1R and VA12 pickups. These may be the most outstanding vintage coils on the planet today. The bridge position’s VA12 is quite interesting. Position 4 of the 5-way switch ignites a middle and bridge pickup combination where both pickups produce a standard vintage-output. Position 5 energizes the bridge pickup alone and brings forth a larger, thicker tone, which remarkably still retains all its vintage character. Its output is perfectly balanced with its neck and middle counterparts—the best of both worlds. We’d better sneak out of here before Bob notices we are drooling.
