There is a romance that can only be found in certain magical cities around the world. Ah, Paris, it is known as the City of Lights, where people fall in love, stroll through the streets and enjoy the quaint sidewalk cafés. And everyone knows New York as The Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, where you can catch a Broadway show or climb to the top of the Empire State building. Chicago is the Windy City, where Oprah Winfrey broadcasts perhaps one of the most important television shows of our time. Los Angeles is called the City of Angels, where Hollywood has literally changed how we all view the world and each other. Nashville bears the label, Music City, home to country music, but what has happened to Houston, Texas?

Known as the Space City, it is home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the command control for all of America’s manned space flights. But shocking as it may seem, it has been rumored that they are now seriously considering changing the city’s slogan. How could they? Well, it seems that something else rather earthshaking has recently taken place in the city of Houston, something of such monumental proportions that they cannot contain themselves any longer.

Yes, Houston now has an official Tom Anderson Guitarworks dealer, Evans Music—and the city is overjoyed! Now everyone in the greater Houston area, and beyond, can finally see what a real Tom Anderson Guitar looks like—in person—just to gaze upon one in real life, to reach out and actually touch it. In some ways this may seem like an altered state of consciousness or some kind of happier parallel universe but that is just what Evans Music City is really all about—and what any great music store should be.

It was the inimitable John Barker who transformed this well-established and highly-respected, full-service music store into a kind of Anderson wonderland in which your greatest musical fantasies can now become something tangible. Some have called it the opportunity of a musical lifetime.

To have John Barker, or any of Evans’ illustrious staff—either of the two Brians, Mike, Matt, Marco and even Steve (a great keyboard player who has been transformed into a guitar lover after the arrival of their first Anderson)—greet you warmly and ask if you’d like to hold one, can be quite an experience. As it is offered up and you lift it to playing position, you now have the real thing in your hands. As you feel its silken satin-finished neck for the first time and glide across the fretboard, you will be changed. Plug it in and you will want to take it home or head out to your next gig. It’s good—very good!

And what makes the whole Evans Music City experience even better is that they now have in their possession the first publicly-presented, M-Series, Swamp Ash, Classic. As you know, Ash’s character is defined by open, airy and delicate middle frequencies, gorgeous sparkling highs and richly robust low, lows, all encapsulated by a bountiful overtone structure that leads many to proclaim Swamp Ash to be, “the most musical and harmonically rich of all the tone woods.”

Outfitted with a traditional vintage pickup setup, this guitar reigns supreme for those players who have mastered the art of negotiating its placid output characteristics. But what about all the other fine players who would also like to be able to bring this time-honored timbre to the forefront of their sound?

Enter the new world order of the M-Series, Swamp Ash, Classic. M's are certainly happy to oblige as they launch Ash’s traditional tone from the stage with an authority previously unmatched, while still maintaining the full and illustrious beauty and wide frequency response single coil pickups have to offer—but without the hum. Longing for the extreme tradition of single coil ash-tone does not have to be something of concern any longer, for the M-Series, Swamp Ash, Classic has arrived in Houston—the Space & Anderson Guitar City. Kind of has a nice ring to it.
