This could be the longest and most entertaining Guitar of the Week that we didn’t write. Yes, we wrote the words but it is what goes along with the words that make it lengthy—but so good. Come with me, I want you to meet someone.

If you don’t know him already, may we introduce you to DAITA. He is one of Japan’s most popular guitar heroes, has three solo albums out now, with a fourth on the way. This guy can really tear it up. How good is he? Well, when the G3 Tour with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci arrived in Japan, DAITA was asked to join them.

DAITA claims his favorite guitar is an Anderson—we decided there was no reason to argue. When he was visiting in California, he stopped by for a visit. We were glad to see him. He brought two of his guitars along with him—a Bora Bora Blue, Swamp Ash, Classic and a 3 Color Burst, Alder, Classic—both of which he got from the Mesa/Boogie Factory Store in Hollywood several years ago.

Although Japanese is his first language, he spoke much better English than I did Japanese, so I was able to visit and ask him a few important questions that I was sure you would want to know.

He plugs his prized axes into a Mesa/Boogie Mark III, a TriAxis or a Coliseum—depending on the arena. One of these heads will power three 4x12 Recto cabs—dry signal to the center and right and left are stereo effects.

His effects are minimal, incorporating a TC 2290 delay, Fireworks reverb and Roland VF1 Chorus.

All right, enough talk. As they say, the proof is in the performance…maestro, if you please…
